Padam Bhushan  G.P. Chopra Ji

Mahatma Hansraj (1864 - 1938)

Mahtama Hansraj, born on the 19th April 1864, was a Mahatma (a great soul), indeed. The two great mahatmas, Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) and Mahatma Hansraj (1864-1938) traced identical paths, one in the political field and the other in the socio-cultural, almost contemporaneously. Frail of body but possessing heroic spirit, both of them voluntarily opted for a life of self denial and renunciation though both of them could command the most alluring luxuries for the mere asking. They were both Karamyogis and following the gospel of Gita they sought fulfillment of action, not in fruit.

Mahatma Hansraj is acknowledged as the founding father of the DAV movement. He had inherited the spirit of patriotism from his father and has given an early promise of things to come.

Mahatma Hansraj established the D.A.V. College Trust and Management Society on 31st January 1886 after the death of Swami Dayanand. It is now the oldest and biggest non-governmental educational organization in India. It covers broadly the entire spectrum of educational activity in the country. The society has developed a chain of institutions from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Manipur to Rajasthan with a view to meet the demand for enlightening and progressive education based on the requirements of contemporary times with emphasis on values of life. It includes over 750 public and aided schools, colleges in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce, Education , Law, Technology, Ayurveda, Medicine, Pharmacy & Management, It has completed one hundred and twenty six years of its academic services. Apart from providing the traditional value education, it has also contributed to the society through the establishment of Hospitals, Libraries and Research Centres.

Maharishi Dayanand (1824 - 1883)

Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the great saint was born in 1824 in the village Tankara in Gujarat. He was a great reformer and path maker of modern India. He founded the Arya Samaj. His ideals of social reform were accepted widely  all over the country. His call to go back to the Vedas for reconstruction of the country were the basis of DAV Movement in the country.

In the galaxy of the great men who rescued India from the clutches of degeneration and despondency in the 19th century, Dayanand Saraswati occupies a very important place. Possessed of sharp intellect and a vision far ahead of his  time,  he  ceaselessly  worked to bring a

new life to his countrymen through a stupendous programme  of religious reformation, cultural regeneration and political emancipation. He transfused into their morbid bodies his own formidable energy, his certainty, his lions blood and lifted them from the densest depths of ignorance, sloth and inertia.
